Monday 2 June - Glitz, Blitz and 70’s Hitz
With their stylish rebirth of the 50’s Rock N’ Roll, Showaddywaddy became one of the biggest groups of the 70s and dominated the British charts. After their first release “Hey Rock and Roll” shot to no.2, they went on to spend an impressive 209 weeks in the chart’s top 40s. Ten single releases were top ten, including the smash no. 1 “Under the Moon of Love”. They are now celebrating over 30 years in the business.

Joining Showaddywaddy on this spectacular bill is one of the biggest glam-rock bands of the era, SWEET. Sweet are the quintessential 70’s glam rock band, who brought androgynous looks and crunching guitar pop to the masses. Including their smash no.1 “Blockbuster”, they had 17 charting hits and spent over three years in the UK charts alone.

Completing this classic bill, we present Rubettes (featuring Alan Williams). Rubettes first made No.1 in 1974 with their very first single ‘Sugar Baby Love’ and after five weeks at the coveted No.1 spot in the U.K. they repeated their success throughout the world. ‘Sugar Baby Love’ sold eight million copies after which the Rubettes went on to have a further 15 International Hits establishing themselves, with their flamboyant Gatsby appearance, as one of the icons of the 70’s Glam Rock era.

Saturday 7 June - Saturday 21 June - Les Parents Terribles
Imagine the ultimate dysfunctional family - a cross between the black farce of Joe Orton and the twisted sophistication of Noel Coward - and you get some idea of the nature of this brilliantly stylish tragi-comedy by Jean Cocteau.
The play scandalized audiences in Paris in 1938 and it still has the ability to shock today. The tale of a mother’s unhealthy passion for her son, the son’s love for his father’s mistress and the unrequited desire of an ageing spinster for her brother in law. Half melodrama, half farce, Cocteau is revealing a real truth of human nature - that passion is often as ridiculous as it is intense. For those caught up in it, obsessive love is all consuming emotion and pain. For those of us watching from the sidelines, it makes you wince even as you laugh.

Title: The Pursuit of Health: Is Contemporary Medicine Taking Us Down the Wrong Path?

At an accelerating rate, medical research is providing stunning new insights, including the decoding of the human and many other genomes. Despite the new knowledge and huge investments in treatment, rates of many diseases in the US are declining only slightly and in some population subgroups overall mortality is increasing. Our investments in health ignore information that most major diseases are largely preventable by known dietary and lifestyle modifications. A more balanced approach would have a much greater impact on the health of our societies.
